Rep. Jimenez Supports Plan to Fund Higher Education and MAP Grants

SPRINGFIELD – State Representative Sara Wojcicki Jimenez (R-Springfield) is co-sponsoring a House Republican proposal to fund higher education and MAP Grants.

“Schools are the economic and intellectual engines of the community,” Jimenez said. “We’re doing what we can to pass a budget and keep kids in the classroom. In order to keep Illinois’ community colleges and public universities operating, they need funding.”

The proposal to fund higher education and MAP grants, House Bill 4539, is contingent upon approval of the Unbalanced Budget Response Act, House Bill 4521. The bill would reinstate relief measures which Governor Pat Quinn used during the 2011 budget crisis. It will provide additional powers to the Governor to take corrective actions to bring expenditures in line with revenue in circumstances when the State is spending in excess of estimated revenues.

"I want to work with everyone in the House to find a solution to this very important issue for our community colleges and universities," Jimenez said. "We need to work in a bipartisan way on every measure before us and find ways to compromise and find common ground."
