Jimenez calls for biennial state budget

Representative Sara Wojcicki Jimenez (R-Springfield) is co-sponsoring a resolution which calls on the state of Illinois to move to a two-year budget cycle instead of the current annual budget.

“Our service providers, state employees, schools and everyday residents of the state need to have the certainty that comes with a two-year budget, instead of having to go through this process every single year,” Jimenez said. “We need to do a better job of planning toward medium and long-term priorities, and this is a step in the right direction.”

The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield), calls on the legislature’s Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability and the Governor’s Office of Management and Budget to develop a revenue estimate for both this fiscal year and next fiscal year and present it to both the House and Senate so that they might put together a two-year state budget.

The legislation is House Resolution 796.
