Rep. Jimenez Named GOP Spokesperson on New House Task Force on Sexual Discrimination and Harassment

State Representative Sara Wojcicki Jimenez today announced that she has been selected to serve as the House GOP Spokesperson on the newly-created House Task Force on Sexual Discrimination and Harassment. Formed in the wake of recent reports of alleged harassment at the State Capitol, the Task Force will seek solutions to address sexual harassment and discrimination in both the public and private sectors.

“Sexual harassment must never be tolerated, period.” said Rep. Jimenez. “No one should ever feel they have to endure unwanted comments or advances in fear for their job or their safety and I’m proud to have an opportunity to help shape policy that will provide new protections.”

The Task Force was created by House Resolution 687 to conduct a thorough review of sexual discrimination and harassment in the workplace, considering both legal and social ramifications, and to then make recommendations to the General Assembly on ways to better protect employees.

“We took several very important steps in recent weeks by putting a new Legislative Inspector General in place, and establishing training and a new reporting hotline, but it’s clear there’s much more work to be done. We will continue to look at additional ways to simplify the reporting process to encourage those who have experienced harassment or discrimination to come forward. To ensure a fair and impartial review, we also need to consider limiting legislators’ role in reviewing complaints and we need to review and look for enhancements in our anti-retaliation and whistle-blower protections,” Representative Jimenez said.

The Task Force will release its final report and introduce related legislation by December 31, 2018, but interim reports and the filing of some additional legislative options in the coming weeks are likely.
